Rationale – Ischemia and disease
Ischemia is a restriction in blood supply to tissues, causing a shortage of oxygen that is needed to keep tissues alive. It is generally caused by problems with blood vessels, resulting in damage to or dysfunction of tissue. A range of tissues including cardiac, bowel, brain, limb, and cutaneous can be involved.
Matrx’s MTX61 has been shown to generate fully functional de novo microvasculature in ischemic muscles and has broad applicability to ischemic related indications described below. The technology exploits the ability of self-assembling, nano-fiber forming peptides to initiate biological cascade of controlled angiogenesis and physically support new blood-vessel formation.
Indications for MTX 61 include:
- Intermittent claudication (IC) & Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI)
- Skin grafts in treating severe burns
- Regenerative endodontics
- Diabetic Foot Ulceration
- Plastic / reconstructive surgery
